Mr. Payton is admitted to practice before all courts in the State of Colorado, California and North Dakota, the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado, and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.  He is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Weld County Bar Association, and the California Bar Association. He served as the President and as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Weld County Bar Association and is a member of the Litigation, Business Law and Real Estate Law Sections of the Colorado Bar Association. Mr. Payton was named one of seven “Compleat” Lawyers by Law Week Colorado and was recognized as a member of Lawyers of Distinction. He formerly served as the chairman of the Greeley Planning Commission, and in 2017, Mr. Payton was elected to the Greeley City Council as Ward 2 Councilman.

Mr. Payton received his undergraduate degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Colorado State University in Fort Collins in 1996, and his Law Degree from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles in 2002. During his tenure at Southwestern, Mr. Payton worked for SCAN Health Plan, a Medicare HMO in Long Beach, providing advice and guidance on Federal and State legislative issues.

While in California, Mr. Payton represented employers, various insurance companies and county and local governments in all phases of business litigation, including appeals, business transactions. Mr. Payton also previously represented Mercury Insurance and provided coverage and claims guidance for the company on all of their lines of coverage across the nation.

Brett Payton is a founding member of CP2 and works out of the firm’s Greeley office.
