Attorney Julie Trent practices in all areas of general commercial litigation and employment law, assisting many types of businesses and financial institutions in a wide range of cases. She has experience in matters as diverse as overtime disputes under the Fair Labor Standards Act, trademark disputes under the Lanham Act, bankruptcy adversary proceedings and general contract disputes. She represents employers in a variety of matters, including the defense of age, race, national origin and sex discrimination, unemployment compensation and wage claims, and helps clients draft and revise their employment policies and manuals to conform to rapidly changing state and federal laws. She particularly enjoys helping clients avoid litigation by drafting and revising employment policies and manuals to conform to rapidly changing state and federal laws, as well as helping clients at the beginning and end of employment relationships with non-solicitation, non-competition and separation agreements. She has also represented employees with respect to non-competition agreements, severance agreements and other business matters.

Ms. Trent is highly experienced in representing clients in federal and state courts, arbitration proceedings and mediation. She is admitted to practice before all courts in Colorado and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.  She has also served as a volunteer arbitrator in attorney fee disputes on behalf of the Colorado Bar Association Legal Fee Arbitration Committee.

She attended J. Reuben Clark Law School for her juris doctorate where she received the Order of the Barrister academic distinction. She was a member of the Moot Court Board of Advocates, served as a Moot Court Director and was awarded the Faculty Award for Promotion of Oral Advocacy. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology with an extra-major skill in biochemistry.

Ms. Trent began her legal career at a large international law firm in Denver and was a partner at a boutique law firm in the Denver Tech Center focused on banking and commercial litigation for eleven years before joining Coan, Payton & Payne, LLC.

She has volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), is a certified scuba diver and enjoys traveling and competitive and recreational tennis in her free time.
