** Mr. Stouffer has retired from the practice of law.**
Mr. James P. (J.P.) Stouffer’s legal practice was concentrated on estate planning and administration, business planning, and real estate.
In real estate, Mr. Stouffer counseled clients on both residential and commercial purchases and sales, including title work. This was often done in conjunction with his estate planning and administration practice, which frequently involved the creation and sale of entities, distributions of assets and other related undertakings. His clientele consisted of entrepreneurs, farmers and ranchers, executives, retirees and young families. Mr. Stouffer’s approach to estate planning was to emphasize listening and thoroughly understanding the client’s needs and objectives, then providing them with the information and strategies they needed to reach those goals.
Mr. Stouffer’s legal career began as a clerk with Judge Robert Foley of the Oregon Court of Appeals, after which he practiced for three years with a large law firm in Portland. In 1973, he moved to Colorado and had practiced law in the Denver area ever since.
Speaking to community groups on wills, trusts, and estate planning was one of Mr. Stouffer’s favorite activities. He understood the desire of the public to be better informed on estate planning issues, and thus frequently shared his knowledge with interested organizations. Additionally, he had presented seminars and taught courses for insurance companies on estate planning matters.
Mr. Stouffer was a member of the Colorado Bar Association and served as a member of the Title Standards Committee of the Real Estate and Titles Section of the Colorado Bar Association.
