Coan, Payton & Payne, LLC is pleased to announce that attorneys G. Brent Coan, James P. Stouffer, Richard M. Hess, Jr., Carol S. Raznick and John W. Madden, III were selected by their peers for the 2021 Edition of The Best Lawyers® in America. R. Clay Bartlett was selected for The Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch.

Since it was first published in 1983, Best Lawyers® has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence. The list is compiled based on an exhaustive peer-review evaluation. Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch recognizes lawyers who are earlier in their careers for their outstanding professional excellence in private practice. Honorees in both categories are reviewed by their peers on the basis of professional expertise, and undergo an authentication process to make sure they are in current practice and in good standing.

This is Mr. Coan’s eighth year in a row of inclusion for his work in corporate and real estate law. Mr. Stouffer and Mr. Hess are receiving their eleventh and sixth years, respectively, of selection for trusts and estates. This year’s recognition is Ms. Raznick’s first inclusion for her work in real estate law. Mr. Madden has been included in construction law for six years. Mr. Bartlett has earned his first inclusion for business organizations (including LLCs and partnerships), mergers and acquisitions law, and real estate law.

Mr. Coan’s law practice is focused on corporate and real estate related matters including: purchase and sale transactions; business organization and capitalization; corporate M&A transactions; land planning and development; and all issues related to financial institutions and lender/creditors’ rights involving real estate and commercial loan transactions.

Mr. Stouffer’s legal practice is concentrated on estate planning and administration, business planning, and real estate. His estate planning and administration practice frequently involves creation and sale of entities, distribution of assets and other related undertakings. Mr. Stouffer’s approach to estate planning is to emphasize listening and thoroughly understanding the client’s needs and objectives, then provide them with the information and strategies they need to reach those goals.

Mr. Hess’ practice emphasizes wealth preservation and transfer, family philanthropy and the related fields of succession and exit planning for closely-held businesses and professional practices. He assists business partners, entrepreneurs, professional practices, individuals, and family groups in preserving and facilitating the transfer of wealth as well as managing inter-generational philanthropy.

Ms. Raznick’s practice is focused on all aspects of commercial real estate, homebuilding, financing, mergers and acquisitions and general business. She assists her clients with all their transactional needs, including negotiating and drafting contracts and other documents regarding acquisitions, warranties, indemnities, dispositions, purchase and sale options, debt, as well as entity formations and restructuring.

Mr. Madden has significant experience with complex real estate and construction litigation. He was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado, serving in the major trials sections, trying over 35 cases. He also served as Regional Director for the Federal Trade Commission’s Denver office.
